The 2013 Boston Red Sox season was as unpredictable as you can get. The Red Sox were not favored to win the Amercian League East, let alone be competitive in the division. The Boston Marathon tragedy happened very early in the season and became a driving force for the team. The term "Boston Strong" and its message rang loudly both in home games at Fenway Park and in away stadiums. As the season progressed into summer, the Red Sox were winning with not only great baseball skill, but with a toughness that embodied the Boston Strong spirit.

The other aspect of the 2013 Red Sox season was the beards. Long beards grown by not only a few members of the team, but by season's end, the entire team. These beards forged a bond between teammates and fans that grew and grew into an incredible scene. Players normally clean shaven were now sporting beards that they had grown since early spring, some since Spring Training. The beards became a huge hit amongst Red Sox fans, known worldwide as Red Sox Nation.

Manager John Farrell in his first season as Red Sox manager guided the Red Sox from last place the previous season to a World Series. And, after defeating the St. Louis Cardinals, The Boston Red Sox were again World Champions of baseball. This lithograph by local artist Frankie Galasso captures the spirit, the players, and yes, the beards of the 2013 Boston Red Sox players.
